Law enforcement and SAPS clamp down on unregulated beauty products

The shop’s manager was arrested for allegedly selling unregulated beauty products.

During a joint law enforcement operation between Emalahleni Local Municipality Law Enforcement and SAPS beauty products were confiscated from a shop.

Leading the operation on February 1, chief law enforcement officer, Delisiwe Motha said they are clamping down on shops selling beauty products that allegedly pose a serious health issue to women that use it.

“These skin-lightning products that contain Hydro Quinone and paraffin can cause cancer,” Motha said.

She said the products were banned in 1990.

The manager of the shop was arrested during the operation.

The manager said, “I did not know the products are not allowed in South Africa. We buy from a reseller that buys these products in bulk.”

Beauty products were confiscated from a shop on Thursday, February 1.

“The influx of unregulated beauty products will not be allowed in eMalahleni. I urge shop owners to do their homework and make sure all their beauty products are safe to use,” Motha said.

Local somatologist, Ms Soné Tenreiro said that using the right beauty products is essential.

“Go to a qualified beautician for a proper skin analysis and recommendation on which products to use,” Soné advised.
