Witbank Police investigate alarming cases of hijackings

Three hijackings reportedly took place in just two days.

Vehicle theft and hijacking are on the rise in eMalahleni.

This comes after two more vehicles were reportedly hijacked in just two days.

On the R544 on Verena Road, it is alleged that a man was driving a company vehicle. Whilst driving, a white Isuzu

double cab drove next to him, before the passenger allegedly threatened him with a firearm and forced him to pull over.

According to the police, on Thursday, January 25 at around 11:00, the victim stopped and attempted to reverse, but was unfortunately blocked by a white Volkswagen Caddy.

It is alleged that the armed suspects emerged from the Isuzu, and ordered him to get out of the vehicle.

The victim was left to fend for his way home after the suspects fled the scene with all three vehicles, heading toward the Kromdraai Road.

When closing gates on your premises, motorists should be aware of their surroundings.

This comes after a man was supposedly ambushed by three suspects in front of his home in Siyanqoba.

It is alleged that a man was threatened by the suspects, who then disarmed him of his firearm before they forcefully put him back into his grey Peugeot 4×4 Landtrek.

It is said that the suspects then fled with the victim’s car on Thursday, January 25 at around 22:00.

According to the police, the vehicle was later recovered in Dennilton.

In downtown, a man was robbed of his car after dropping off his girlfriend in Plumer Street.

It is alleged that on Friday, January 26, a man was driving his white Volkswagen Polo in the said location when his friend wanted to return nature’s call after a night of partying.

According to the police, once the friend got out of the vehicle, he was ambushed by unknown suspects who forced the driver out of the vehicle.

It is said the suspects fired gunshots when the driver and his friend ran for their lives. At around 00:25 the suspects fled the scene with the said vehicle.
