In December, the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) reported that the Mpumalanga Province recorded a slight improvement in water levels on average in the listed dams and water management areas.
They attributed this to the recent rains falling in most parts of the country.
“The DWS weekly report also shows that even though the Mpumalanga Province recorded some improvement in water levels in the listed dams and water management areas, the water levels are lower than in the same period last year,” said Themba Khoza from DWS.
After 24mm of rain was measured overnight, Witbank Dam stands at 96.1% this morning.
The Department of Water and Sanitation therefore encourages the public to be responsible water users and use the available water in a wise, sparing, and conservative manner at all times.
The Department further reminds the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country and water has no substitute, therefore it is important to make every drop count.
