Vosman mob justice accused appeared in court

The Station Commander of Vosman Police Station, Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu urged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

Two accused aged between 34 and 35 appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court for attempted murder.
According to Vosman Police Captain Elizabeth Hlathi, the suspects were arrested in connection to an attempted murder incident that took place in Hlalanikahle in July this year.

Captain Hlathi went on to say that the mob justice victim told police that he was allegedly accused by a certain woman that he stole her property, “Allegations which he vehemently denied, but later he was attacked by a group of people travelling in an Isuzu bakkie,” Hlathi informed.

The victim alleged that on Monday, July 24 he saw the bakkie ferrying several people including the accuser approaching him.

As he attempted to make a run for his life, he got stuck in the mud.

“The suspects however pulled him out of the mud, and severely assaulted him and that led to the opening of an attempted murder case, hence the arrests. The accused appeared before the Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Monday, November 20. Police do not rule out any possibility of adding more arrests on this matter,” Hlathi informed.

The Station Commander of Vosman Police Station, Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu urged the community to refrain from mob justice tendencies as it is a criminal offence to take the law into their own hands.
He encouraged the community to report any criminality to the police, as mob justice harbours a potential of accusing the wrong people who might be injured or in the extreme, be killed.
