Rape cases are still a big concern

A woman walking to a park gets attacked and raped by an armed man.

Another rape case has been opened at the Witbank Police Station.

Something simple as walking caused one woman to fall victim to a rapist.

The incident took place on Saturday, November 4 at 19:30 when a woman was on her way to a community park.

According to reports, while walking, the woman felt something hit her foot and she tripped, falling to the ground.

The woman allegedly saw an unknown man holding a golf club and a sharp object in his hands used to threaten the woman.

The unknown man then proceeded to rape the woman.

Investigations are ongoing to find the culprit. Information on the attack is limited, as the victim feared retaliation from the alleged rapist.

According to the South African Police Service website, residents are encouraged to be crime-conscious.

Here are some tips provided:

Be crime-conscious – be aware of crime opportunities at all times!

Never walk around alone and don’t talk to strangers. Be on the lookout for strange cars or people.

Walk in well-lit busy streets and a group, if possible.

Always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be gone. But think twice before advertising your impending absence on social media. Criminals also have access to Facebook and Twitter.

Know all emergency numbers.

Trust your instinct.

Avoid going onto a congested street where you cannot even walk properly.

Avoid displaying valuables where criminals can see them.
