Mpumalanga gears up for Grade 12 final exams with 100% pass rate target

The class of 2023 is ready to conquer the final exams.

As the final exams for Grade 12 pupils approach, the Mpumalanga Department of Education is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and successful examination period.

With a total of 68,681 full-time and 16,767 part-time pupils registered to write their National Senior Certificate, the department is determined to achieve a 100% pass rate.

MEC Bonakele Majuba, of the Mpumalanga Department of Education, expressed the department’s commitment, saying, “The Mpumalanga Department of Education has pulled all stops to ensure that the 2023 Grade 12 National Senior Certificate examinations progress without any glitches.”

The exams are set to begin on Monday, October 30, with the first papers in English FAL and HL scheduled to start at 09:00.

With just a few days remaining before the examinations commence, the department is eager to see the Class of 2023 succeed.

MEC Majuba further stated, “The Department intends to ensure that all the 68,681 candidates pass at the end of these examinations. If for some reason that does not happen, the department will be satisfied to register an 83% pass rate, as this will be in line with the target set in the National Development Plan.”

Emphasizing the importance of this moment for the Grade 12 learners, MEC Majuba made a call to action, saying, “The Department is making a clarion call to all learners to appreciate that this is their time to finish the journey they started 12 years ago. Our learners need to be aware that it is out of their hard work, dedication, and commitment that they made it this far. They need to know that the last few kilometres of any marathon are the hardest and most crucial, as they determine the results.”

One anonymous Grade 12 learner, expressed her excitement and readiness for the exams, saying, “I am so excited and a bit nervous at the same time. I am prepared for my exams and ready.” She added, “Our school at Witbank High has been preparing us since January. We have been doing extra lessons to prepare for our exams. Our teachers have done their part, and we appreciate them.” She has plans to study Medicine at Wits University after matric, aspiring to become a doctor.
Another learner, Surprise Mabena, highlighted the support and preparation received in class, stating, “It is scary because I will be writing for my matric examination for the first time, but I am ready. In class, our teacher always tells us that nothing will be new; all we need to do is study and write. So, I’m good and ready.”

As the Class of 2023 gears up for their final exams, the Mpumalanga Department of Education remains focused on ensuring their success and achieving their pass rate goals.
