Students across Mpumalanga TVET colleges were awarded certificates

The six-month skills programme was spearheaded by the Knowledge Pele Development Institute (KP Dev).

Eighty-three female electricians and artisans were honoured by the Energy and Water Sector Education Training Authority (EWSETA) in collaboration with Power Africa, a US Government-led partnership.

Each one of the students was awarded a certificate at an event that took place at the Emalahleni Civic Theatre on Tuesday, October 17.

Nkangala, Ehlanzeni, and Gert Sibande TVET Colleges students were among those celebrated.

Having recently completed their six-month skills programme in Renewable Energy Specialisation, candidates are now in a far more favourable and empowered position to actively bring solar power solutions to communities as solar panel installers and more.

Candice Moodley, EWSETA’s Corporate Services Executive, highlighted the importance of partnerships in addressing the country’s skills challenges.

Nkangala TVET College students were awarded certificates after they completed their six months Renewables Energy Specialisation Skills Programme on Tuesday, October 17.

She stated that the programme aims to provide meaningful skills development in renewable energy, which can transform the skills landscape, change lives and grow economic development in the area.

“However, without the support and partnership with strategic partners such as Power Africa, the impact that such critical programmes can have to both building a capable workforce able to drive the renewables’ energy strategies of the country and increasing the inclusive economic participation of vulnerable groups like women and youth, remains negligible,” said Moodley.

Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Pretoria, Heather Merritt emphasised that the US government is dedicated to fostering and developing the technical skills required to usher in a new era of renewable energy.

“By supporting this training programme, we are building a skilled workforce for South Africa’s renewable energy sector and advancing the objectives of the Just Energy Transition,” Merritt mentioned.

The institute comprises various modules of the NQF 3 qualification.
