New masters soccer league in full swing

The President of the league Phillip Phatudi Rapakgadi said they formed the league to bring football to the community of KwaGuqa.

Several soccer clubs have come together to form a league.

The Witbank KwaGuqa Masters League has six teams affiliated with it and was formed earlier this year.

President of the league Phillip Phatudi Rapakgadi said they formed the league to bring football to the community of Kwaguqa because the league they were affiliated with before now plays all their league matches in town.

“We aim to encourage the younger generation to play football and to keep ourselves fit. Our games are played at different grounds in the township, the hosting team chooses the ground where the games are to be played.

We are also creating some form of employment in our communities for people to come to sell products at our games,” explained Rapakgadi.

Rapakgadi added that they do not have any competition for the teams but only the prize for the winners of the league.

He thanked all the teams affiliated with the league and was hoping that the league would grow in the future and that the teams would set a good example to young players.

The rest of the executive members are Thokozani Dladla (deputy president), Vusi Hlatshwayo (general secretary), Trevor Silabela (treasure), Nkosinathi Shezi (pro), Arthur Xaba (team’s reps) and Siphamandla Simelane (team reps).

“We also inviting teams to join us next season, players must be born after 1991. Joining has already been opened; the closing date is December 10,” concluded Rapakgadi.
