Shave or spray at Highveld Mall this weekend

This weekend is Cansa Shavathon at Highveld Mall.

Cansa Shavathon is one of South Africa’s best-loved events in support of a very worthy cause, namely showing solidarity with those affected by cancer.

Losing one’s hair is a common side effect of cancer therapy – so shaving your head has become a symbolic gesture of support for cancer survivors.

Colouring your hair or paying a ‘bailout fee’ are options for those who prefer not to shave, or who can’t shave on the day.

Mark your diary in all different colours on October 7 and come and celebrate Cansa’s 21st Shavathon.

Limited edition badges of honour will be given to those who make hair donations of 25cm or longer.

Hair donations are used to make wigs for cancer survivors.

Donations are R50 per adult and R25 for children under the age of 12.

What happens after I’ve donated?
• After registration and making your donation, you will be asked to move to the area where your head will be shaved or sprayed. You can choose the length of your shave or the colours of your spray.
• Please take note that Cansa Shavathon will no longer do a ‘clean shave’ due to risk factors – the lowest number you can shave is a number 1.
• If you would like to donate your ponytail, our volunteers are equipped to accept your hair donations – they will snip it and package it for you! Please remember that your hair must be 25 cm or longer, clean & dry – treated or dyed hair may also be donated.
• The process could take between 15-60 minutes, depending on the queue.

“Come visit us and be part of this exciting project,” Andries du Preez invited.
