Alleged drug kingpin arrested in Vosman

The apprehended suspect appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.

In a relentless crusade against drug-related crime, Vosman Police have sounded a stern alarm to their community, imploring them not to shield callous drug dealers who imperil the lives of young people while enjoying lives of luxury.

This clarion call comes on the heels of the recent arrest of a notorious drug kingpin who had managed to elude the authorities for an extended period.

The watershed moment in this ongoing battle against drug trafficking unfolded with precision on Sunday, September 10.

According to Vosman Spokesperson Captain Elizabeth Hlathi, alert officers sprang into action at 20:45, converging on the suspect’s residence, where they observed him in the act of drug transactions.

The drug users, sensing they were under police scrutiny, hastily fled the scene.

Unfazed, the drug dealer made a desperate bid to slam his gate shut to evade capture, but the police responded, thwarting his escape and apprehending him.

The arrest presented further challenges when the suspect unleashed a pair of pit bulls to attack the officers.

However, the police wielded their operational tools, repelling the vicious dogs and preventing harm.

The culmination of the operation yielded a significant haul, comprising 160 units of suspected nyaope and cocaine, with an estimated street value of R7 200.

The apprehended suspect, a 23-year-old Mozambican national appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 12, to face charges related to drug dealing.

The Acting Station Commander of Vosman, Brigadier Gayane Mashego strongly cautioned the community to refrain from being patriotic to criminals and drug dealers rather than work with police.

“Drugs are detrimental to the community, and they destroy precious lives of young people with potential, leaving them behaving like zombies. The community should assist in identifying and exposing drug dealers so that drug use can be permanently eradicated,” said Mashego.
