Councillor is ‘not barking up the wrong tree’

Clr Maureen Scheepers will be planting trees in Ward 20 in the coming month.

Global warming is a heated debate and if you go back to basics, planting a tree is one of the most powerful tools you can apply to combat global warming.

With that in mind, Democratic Alliance Ward Councillor Maureen Scheepers together with some activists from Ward 20 visited the SPCA on Saturday, September 2, and planted three trees in the Lady Bird Park.

“There is an amazing quote that we should all live by that says, ”Society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in’’. Just like with planting a tree today, we know that we won’t benefit from its shade or fruit any time in the near future, and this is how our mindset should be in all things we do, we are here to create not only for ourselves but for our children and their children,” Scheepers said.

She added, that although the SPCA is located in Ward 20, the entire eMalahleni benefits from the wonderful work that they do for the animals.

“I urge everyone willing to do community work or give donations to contact the SPCA directly and make a difference,” she said.

Scheepers received a generous donation of 12 trees from a local nursery in Ward 20 and will be plating the rest of these trees throughout September, working towards a greener, cleaner, Ward 20.
