Superheroes make great readers at Tasbet Park Primary

Bookworms and superheroes galore at Tasbet Park Primary.

Learners from Tasbet Park Primary are growing into future reading champions.

Sphesihle Skhosana even made his hair grey to look like his hero Madiba.

Learners from each grade were given a book to read over the past four weeks, and three learners were crowned the best in their grade. Learners were graded on their diction and speed of reading chosen paragraphs.

Mr Julian Masombuka (Departmental Head), Reitumetse Mokoena, Nkosi Nokukhanya, Cailynn Gallant and Miss Marelize Kok.

Miss Marelize Kok, who organised the reading competition, said that students were only allowed books from the school’s library. The competition aimed to expose more children to the library and hoped that it would encourage students to read more.

Holiness Biayi won the Circuit Three spelling Bee.

Prizes were also given to the top three readers in each grade.

First-place winners received a R300 shopping voucher, second-place winners received a R200 shopping voucher, and third-place winners received a R100 shopping voucher.

Another learner, Holiness Biayi in Grade 5 also made her school proud when she took part in the Circuit Three Spelling Bee competition. She won when she competed against schools such as Reynorif Primary and Laerskool Duvhapark.

The grade four reading winners are Sibanyoni Kuhlekwanele, Mgayi Austin and Mahlakoane King.

On Friday, August 25 the school also had a dress-up day when learners could dress up as their favourite superheroes. Sphesihle Skosana in Grade 6 dressed up as Madiba, saying that he is a great inspiration for many and a worthy role model for the younger generation.

Other learners came in their sleeping clothes and a belt saying that they were dressed as their mothers and others dressed up as fictional superheroes.
