Brother and sister accused of defrauding SARS granted bail

Case against directors who allegedly defrauded SARS postponed .

The brother (39) and sister (49) who are being accused of defrauding the South African Revenue Services (SARS) were granted bail by Witbank Magistrate’s Court last week.

Having initially appeared before the court on Wednesday, August 16, the siblings were promptly remanded in custody pending a formal bail application.

The case against them has been postponed to Tuesday, September 5 when the siblings are scheduled to make their inaugural appearance before Middelburg Commercial Court.

The duo stands accused of defrauding the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in a case that dates back to 2015.

The saga unfolded when the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Mpumalanga Hawks, discovered that on January 20, 2015, the siblings who are both directors of a company allegedly engaged in a calculated act of fraud.

Their alleged misdeeds involved the submission of falsified documents to SARS, a scheme that netted them an unjust refund totalling a staggering R996 236 97.
