You can enter the competition online at the gate of Loskop Dam or online www.loskopdamclassic.co.za.

The Loskop Dam Classic fishing competition is around the corner.

The competition, hosted by Koning Makriel Sea-angling Club

is taking place on September 2 at Loskop Dam.

The premier fishing competition, which is dubbed one of the biggest in the country, has fabulous prizes up for grabs.

The fisherman who manages to catch the heaviest carp walks away with a Bandit 490 Boat with a Mercury 100HP motor.

The heaviest barbel has a prize of R50 000 attached to it, and the heaviest junior carp and barbel R10 000 each.

The second place in the heaviest carp and heaviest barbel has R30 000 each up for grabs and the third place is R10 000 each.

For the juniors, there are R5 000 and R2 000 just waiting to be won.

“We had a blast last year and this year the bar is set higher,” said Dwayne Viviers from Koning Makriel.

Last year’s winner of the boat was 20-year-old Ju-Mari Joubert who caught a 5.40kg carp.

Jonatin Abrie smiled about his R50 000 cheque for the barbel that landed him first place. The winning barbel weighed 12.06kg.

The juniors also ‘hooked’ up some good cash prizes.

Ruvan van der Westhuizen won the juniors U16 heaviest carp of 3.50kg and Alex Robberts the juniors U16 heaviest barbel of 9.6kg.

They each received a cheque for R10 000.

Entry for the competition is R380 per person.

You can enter the competition online at the gate of Loskop Dam or online www.loskopdamclassic.co.za.
