A tavern in KwaGuqa hit by armed robbery suspects who fled with cash and alcohol

Robbers resort to gunfire before fleeing the scene with cash and a haul of beverages.

Chaos erupted at a local tavern in KwaGuqa Extension 11 as three suspects stormed in, wielding firearms and leaving a trail of fear in their wake.

The incident occurred at approximately 21:55 on Saturday, August 19.

According to reports, the tavern’s lone staff member was in the process of closing and cleaning when the events unfolded.

In a chilling sequence, one of the suspects entered the establishment brandishing a firearm, immediately instructing everyone present to lie down.

The suspects, using the element of surprise to their advantage, proceeded to demand money from the patrons, leaving no one untouched by their search.

They made their way to the cash drawer, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspects, reportedly armed with a firearm, took control of the situation and emptied the contents of the dustbin, filling it with 16 500-ml bottles of cider.

Amid the chaos, the robbers fired four gunshots, further intensifying the atmosphere of fear before making a swift escape. No arrests have been reported in connection with the incident.

Vosman Police Station Spokesperson Captain Elizabeth Hlathi has emphasised the importance of adhering to trading hours and avoiding isolation during late hours.

She also recommended against keeping large amounts of money on the premises, urging business owners to make use of banking services to minimise risks.
