Couple’s night takes a terrifying turn in robbery ordeal

After being robbed at gunpoint, the victims manage to flee on foot.

A quiet night turned into a nightmare for a couple who just arrived in eMalahleni, as they fell victim to a robbery involving six suspects.

The incident occurred around 22:30 on Friday, August 18.

According to the police report, the victims, a young couple from Johannesburg, were left stranded downtown late in the evening due to a lack of available transportation.

Desperate for a way out, they began hitchhiking, hoping for a ride that would take them to their destination.

A grey Volvo pulled over, seemingly offering assistance by giving the couple a lift.

However, the situation took a dark turn as the suspects altered their route, taking the victims past Costas Garage and Highveld Steel.

It was then that one of the suspects requested the vehicle to stop under the pretext of needing to use the restroom.

As the car came to a halt, one of the suspects abruptly pointed a firearm at the male victim, and the horrifying ordeal began.

The suspects demanded the victims’ belongings, making off with a handbag, school bag, bank cards, earrings, and a watch.

However, the situation escalated further as the suspects pushed both victims out of the car and ordered them to flee on foot.

The couple complied, managing to escape with their lives.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Vosman Police Station at 013 659 8400 or the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111.
