Crime awareness campaign addresses carjacking scourge in Hlalanikahle

As they battle carjackings in the area, Vosman Police are on alert in Hlalanikahle Extension, one of the hotspots for hijackings.

In response to a recent spike in carjackings and other serious crimes, a successful crime awareness campaign was held on Monday, July 24, in Hlalanikahle

The campaign, organised by Vosman Police, aimed to bring the community and the police together to tackle the rising crime rates and raise awareness about the importance of cooperation.

According to the crime report issued by Vosman Police, a series of carjackings involving Toyota bakkies GD 6 had been reported in the area. Tragically, one of the victims lost their life during a carjacking incident. The alarming increase in carjackings prompted the urgent need for a community-driven initiative.

Various stakeholders, including PolSec, CPF, Community in Blue, Emalahleni Local Municipality, Khuluma Ndoda Forum, and community members, joined forces to make the crime awareness campaign a success.

A crime awareness campaign addressing the carjacking scourge was held on Monday, July 24, in Hlalanikahle.

Sergeant Kenneth Manzini, responsible for solving serious crimes in Vosman, highlighted the significant rise in crime levels since 2005, emphasising the community’s crucial role in reducing crime.

Lucas Thabethe from Khuluma Ndoda Forum and Moeketsi Masuku from PolSec both pledged unwavering support to collaborate with the police in combating crime.

Councillor Tshintsha Thobela from Emalahleni Local Municipality, who spearheaded the campaign in partnership with Vosman SAPS, stressed the importance of rebuilding trust between the community and the police. He urged community members to cooperate with the police, report crimes promptly, and provide valuable information about criminal activities.

In his closing remarks, Lieutenant Colonel Aphane assured the community that the police would continue conducting operations in high-crime areas like Hlalanikahle Extension 1, where most of the carjackings occurred.

He urged the community to steer clear of vigilantism and to collaborate with the police to bring criminals to justice. Additionally, he encouraged the community to provide information about individuals involved in vehicle hijackings, promising to allocate more resources to fight crime.

The community, in response, pledged their commitment to work alongside the police and requested increased resources to bolster crime-fighting efforts.
