Water outages update: Emalahleni Local Municipality tackles supply challenges amidst Point C Reservoir maintenance

Water supply restored to some areas, others to remain isolated as Emalahleni Local Municipality addresses Point C Reservoir concerns.

Residents across eMalahleni faced a challenging day as the Emalahleni Local Municipality took swift action to address water supply concerns.

The focus was on maintaining the water level in the Point C ground reservoir, leading to temporary water outages in several areas.

The municipality’s initiative to quickly bolster the water level at Point E ground reservoir has been successful, allowing piped water supply to commence or resume shortly in areas previously affected.

However, the achievement came at the cost of isolating other areas to ensure the sustainability of Point C ground reservoir levels.

As the situation unfolds, some areas will remain isolated for a longer period to support Point C’s ground reservoir level.

The municipality aims to reopen water supply to some areas at 17:00 today (August), including KwaMntunzi Vilakazi, Transalloys, Elandsfontein Mine, and Kwa Guqa New Extensions, all of which are supplied by the elevated tank at Point E.

Residents in Portion of eMalahleni Ext16, Ext 8 and 41, Portion of Tasbet Park Ext 1, 2, and 3, Uthingo Park, Duvha Park Proper, Duvha Park Ext 1, 2, 7, and 8, and other areas supplied by B to C reservoir, can expect water supply restoration at the same time.

Meanwhile, some areas faced prolonged water outages due to the ongoing challenges at Point C.

The following areas will remain isolated until tomorrow morning: Portion of Tasbet Park Ext 1, Tasbet Park New Extensions, Tasbet Park Ext 12, Southview, Duvha Park New Extensions, and Dixion Holdings.

Efforts to repair the bulk supply line to Klarinet extensions and Pine Ridge are well underway.

The fabrication of the required couplings is in progress, and the water supply to the affected area is anticipated to be restored within the next three hours or so.
