Trial of municipal worker accused of killing two women with refuse truck postponed again

The accused is currently out on R4000 bail and the case has been postponed.

The case, where a municipal worker is accused of killing two women after allegedly hitting them with a refuse truck was postponed.

The accused, Oupa Mokoena, was set to stand trial on Wednesday, July 19 before the regional court.

Mokoena has made several court appearances and is out on R4 000 bail.

 

The incident happened on August 19, 2021, on the R554 road heading to Paxton Correctional Services.

Both victims, Ketshepileone Mgweemang (31) and Masichaba Lekgetho (35) were residents of Old Coronation.

The postponement came after the presiding magistrate resigned.

The trial has been set for November 3.

At one stage residents of Old Coronation marched to the police station to voice out their anger.

The residents have also demonstrated outside court every time the accused appeared in court.

The residents have voiced their anger and frustration with the slow pace the proceedings have taken.
