Armed robbery on N4 highway: Valuables stolen; suspects at large

Three people will never forget the morning when they were robbed on the N4 after a spiking incident.

In a shocking turn of events, the driver and two passengers fell victim to an armed robbery while on the N4 highway, heading towards eMalahleni.

The incident occurred at approximately 06:30 on Friday, June 30, leaving the victims shaken and the suspects still at large.

According to reports, the complainant was driving his white BMW when he noticed unusual signs on the dashboard and pulled over to check.

It was then that he discovered his vehicle had driven over a set of spikes, causing an oil leak.

Concerned, he contacted his insurance company for assistance.

While waiting inside the vehicle with his two passengers, a harrowing situation unfolded.

Three armed suspects approached the car, knocking on the windows.

Fearing for their lives, the complainant and his passengers were instructed to get out of the vehicle and walk into the nearby veldt.

During the ordeal, it is believed the suspects attempted to access the complainant’s account, aiming to transfer funds.

Despite their efforts, the assailants failed to successfully transfer money.

Undeterred, they made a second attempt, but unfortunately, this endeavour was also unsuccessful.

The suspects allegedly managed to seize valuable possessions from the victims.

They fled with three cellphones and an undisclosed amount that was successfully transferred from one of the passengers’ bank accounts.
