Surge in day and night-time house robberies leaves Klarinet residents on edge

As darkness falls over Klarinet, the sensation of uneasiness grows stronger. According to reports, robbers have gotten brazen, breaking into homes when inhabitants are present.

A wave of alarming house robberies has swept through Klarinet, leaving residents deeply concerned and on high alert.

The increase in burglaries occurring both during the day and at night has sparked fear and raised questions about the safety and security of the community.

Over the past weeks, reports of house break-ins have been on the rise in various neighbourhoods of Klarinet.

Brazen criminals have targeted homes at all hours, striking when residents are present or when properties appear unoccupied. The audacity and frequency of these incidents are leaving residents feeling vulnerable and anxious.

Esther Nxumalo, a resident of Klarinet Extension 16, who was recently robbed said, “Robberies are now common in the area, as three other house robberies were reported on the same day I was robbed.”

Criminals have taken advantage of the daytime hours, when one could assume a sense of security, as Nxumalo was abruptly attacked by three suspects in her house in daylight on Tuesday, June 27.

“It was around 11:00, and I was watching TV with my neighbour and nephew when three men came in through the kitchen door because it was open,” she explained.

Nxumalo went on to say that two of the men walked to the bedrooms while the other was tormenting them with the gun. They are also said to have demanded their phones.

The suspects fled with Nxumalo’s daughter’s phone and an undisclosed amount of cash.

Families are grappling with feelings of violation and insecurity, as the sanctity of their homes has been compromised.

“Even now, I’m still shocked. I’m not feeling well. These criminals must be apprehended because we cannot continue in this manner. I am quite old, and such an act could kill me from a heart condition,” she said.

While challenges lie ahead in tackling this alarming trend, the resolve of the Klarinet community remains strong. By working together and remaining vigilant, residents hope to restore a sense of safety and security to their beloved neighbourhood.

“Residents recently met to discuss the events, and it was suggested that we get whistle-blowers. I’m also advising homeowners to be alert of their surroundings and to keep their doors closed, even during the day,” Nxumalo concluded.
