Vosman police concerned over the circulation of illegal firearms

Vosman Police Captain Elizabeth Hlathi said in all the incidents, no arrests have been made.

Vosman police are pleading with the community to help them put an end to acts of vicious armed robberies in the area.

This comes after three cases of armed robberies were reported in one day.

According to reports the first robbery took place in Tshaka Street, Ackerville.

It is alleged that a 29-year-old victim was with his colleague on Monday, June 19 when they were accosted by two unknown males.

It is believed that one of the suspects threatened the victims with a firearm and demanded money whilst the other took their cellphones before they both fled the scene.

Vosman Police Captain Elizabeth Hlathi expressed the growing concern the police have about the circulation of illegal firearms which are a subject matter in the criminal acts that are constantly committed.

In the second robbery, a 34-year-old man alleged that he was at his place of residence at Ackerville busy working on his white Mercedes Benz when he heard a voice of a man instructing him to raise his hands.

The victim then felt something cold in his neck at that point.

It is believed that the suspect searched and forcefully robbed the victim of his 9mm pistol. Another suspect joined in to search the victim as well.

The suspects stole the victim’s identity book before they fled the scene on foot.

According to sources, a black Golf passed the residential place at high speed and led the victim to suspect that the vehicle might have been used as a getaway car.

On the same day, at Extension 7 next to a tuck shop, a 32-year-old man was threatened by two suspects, one of them armed with a firearm.

They demanded his belongings which he gave to them before they fled the scene on foot.

Vosman Police Captain Elizabeth Hlathi said in all the incidents, no arrests have been made, “therefore we request the community to assist with positive information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of these armed men is asked to contact Vosman Police Station at 079 891 4822,” Captain Hlathi said.
