Uthingo Park’s dark days might come to an end if they start paying for services

“Khokha Kuzabancono” (pay your municipal account to improve service delivery), says the municipality.

There could be some light at the end of the tunnel for residents of Uthingo Park as Emalahleni Local Municipality comes on board.

The municipality is urging residents to pay for municipal services and has pledged to give high-quality services in exchange.

This is in response to several complaints from locals about the municipality’s subpar service delivery.

According to residents in another section of the area, it has been about two years since they have been without electricity, and it is still a concern for them as crime increases daily due to the lack of power.

A resident from Uthingo Park who has been staying there for five years, Amahle Repinga, said, “It is a daily struggle to wake each day without electricity. Some of us are not working and can barely afford a solar panel.

The electricity was cut off by the municipality, claiming that we did not pay for the services.”

“Nyaope boys have taken advantage of the situation, as some of them do house robberies due to the lack of power. It is not safe to walk around at night since there are these nyaope boys,” she added.

Additionally, they said that the area is filthy and that since then, some areas have not been serviced by the municipality’s waste management.

The municipality spokesperson, Lebohang Mofokeng, said, “As soon as they begin to pay for the municipal services, they will receive the services.”

Some residents may find this to be good news because uncollected trash is one issue that causes residents tremendous concern.

Residents were compelled to go deep into their pockets to clear the waste, or they must do it on their own, because mounds of trash pile up on the streets and in parks, which is not only a nuisance, but also a health threat.

Another resident who wished to remain anonymous said, “It is not all of us who are not paying the municipality services. I believe illegal connections as well have put us where we are today.”

Mofokeng added that the municipality will restore the electricity and render other services as soon as the residents start paying for the municipal services.

No payment of services or rental is made to the units they occupy.
