‘All I want is my car back’, says Sibongile

Mdima in Hlalanikahle is seeking assistance in locating her stolen red Hyundai Venue.

Recently, every victim of a car hijacking has reported that the thieves seized their vehicles and then fled in the direction of Pretoria.

Following a prior carjacking, two suspects fled with Sibongile Mdima’s vehicle and drove toward Pretoria.

Mdima alleged that when travelling home on Wednesday, April 12, she was hijacked by two armed suspects in KwaGuqa Extensions.

“It was in the evening and there was no power, and I never imagined something like this would occur, but while I was driving, I became aware of a car following me. When I turned, the car sped up until I was turning close to the Sinqobile Clinic, at which point a dark-coloured Citi Golf passed me,” she said.

She continued saying that one of the two suspects in the aforementioned car approached her and aimed a firearm at the window of the vehicle.

She was ordered to sit at the rear of the car with one of the suspects after they demanded she unlocks the vehicle. They then sped off with her inside her car.

She considers herself lucky to be alive considering that, in addition to having her car and phone targeted; she was also afterwards dumped in bushes in Bronkhorstspruit.

“Since I used to use the car to go to work, it made my life easier. These days, however, I have to take a taxi to get to work,” she said.

She believes everyone is a target, as evidenced by the rise in hijackings, and she urges drivers to be cautious, especially during load-shedding.

“I don’t think those people who hijacked me are from around eMalahleni, because even with the language barrier, it’s not familiar,” she said.

Mdima said she had purchased the car early last year, and soon it will be turning one.

“All I want is for my car back in a good state. If anyone has any information about the red Hyundai Venue, registration number KHL 792 MP, please contact the nearest police station,” she concluded.

The spokesperson for the Vosman Police Station, Captain Vusi Mnisi, said, “As the police in Vosman, we are quite concerned about the way crime is increasing, especially with the hijackings. Good Samaritans are typically most prone to being hijacked; therefore, they must always be alert and cautious.”
