Three women raped and assaulted in Vosman

The victims between the ages of 15 and 30 years old were sexually assaulted during the Easter holidays.

The increase in rape cases is a huge concern for Vosman Police.

They seek assistance from community members in tracing the whereabouts of rape suspects in the area. This comes after three women were victimised and assaulted during the Easter holidays.

The rape victims who are between the ages of 15 and 30 years old were abused sexually in various areas around Extensions 9, 16 and 8.

As many wrapped up the Easter holidays’ long weekend in eMalahleni, a 23-year-old woman fell victim to the horrific crime of rape.

According to reports, the victim alleges that she was asleep before she woke up to the shock of her life when she saw an unknown male standing next to her bed.

The suspect supposedly had entered the resident home of his victim at around 01:00 on Monday morning, April 10 where he demanded to see her whilst holding a knife in his hand.

It is believed the male accused the female of stealing money from him after he allegedly bought beers from her tavern on Friday, April 7.

Furthermore, it is alleged that the suspect told the victim to pay back the money, but she, however, told him that she doesn’t have money.

That is when the man instructed the victim to take off her underwear and face down so that they can have sex in exchange for his money. It is said when the victim refused, the suspect forced himself on her.

In Ezinambeni Extension 9, a woman was allegedly raped and assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. The victim claims that she was with her sister at a local cocktail bar on the evening of Sunday, April 9.

According to the reports, when they arrived at the bar around 22:00, the two ladies treated themselves to some drinks.

It was around that time when the ex-boyfriend made his way to their table. It is believed the ex-boyfriend greeted them and passed, but later returned after 30 minutes.

It is alleged by the victim that the suspect requested to speak to her and when she agreed, he further requested that they go to a quiet place. As they went outside to the parking lot, the victim claims she then came to the realisation that the ex-boyfriend had arranged e-Hailing services and she consented to ride in before they drove off to the ex-boyfriend’s place in Extension 9 Ezinambeni.

It is believed that upon arrival, the ex-boyfriend told the victim that he missed her and wanted to sleep with her, but she refused. It is alleged that the ex-boyfriend then assaulted her with a belt and thereafter with open hands.

The suspect later supposedly undressed before he pushed the victim to the bed and sexually assaulted her without her consent.

On Thursday, April 6 a 16-year-old was brutally raped in Vosman Extension 16 whilst walking alone at around 20:30. The victim alleged that she was on her way to visit a friend when she met a male known to her.

According to reports the man insisted on accompanying her, but she refused. It is alleged that the suspect began to physically abuse the victim as he slapped her.

It is believed that the suspect then threatened her to go to his house.

Although the victim supposedly screamed, she was threatened with a scissor by the suspect and alleged he would kill her if she did not want to go with him. The victim alleges that the suspect took her to his house and locked the door before he raped her without using protection.

The victim further claims to be have held hostage by the suspect and it was only on the morning of Monday, April 10 she was freed.

The suspect again threatened that if she told anyone, he would kill her. The victim alleged that she went to the taxi rank and reported to her brother who took her to the police station and reported the incident.

Vosman Police Captain Vusi Mnisi warned that community members, more particularly women to refrain from walking alone, especially after dark. He advised women to travel in groups rather, “When women are travelling to or from bars, should travel in groups and not alone. We advise women to avoid walking in isolated areas,” he said. The Captain also outlined that women tend to go to bars and pubs without their own money leading them to be vulnerable targets and prey to rapists, “Usually the men will pay for the ladies’ drinks, only to force them to end up paying for those drinks at the end of the night, usually with sex. Women should be self-sufficient, pay for their own drinks and later go home. Avoid talking and engaging with strangers as there is a high possibility for spiked drinks on that occasion,” Mnisi concluded.
