Residents protest against bad treatment from certain officers at Vosman Police Station

What we want is to engage with mines or company management without being violated,” said the community leader.

A protest march was held by residents of Empumelelweni in Ward 29 to Vosman Police Station.

The residents’ main complaint on Wednesday, March 8 was about some police officers based at the station who they feel are “harassing and threatening” them.

Community leader Mr Thokozane Mabuza, Ward 29 secretary said they had enough of being harassed and threatened by a well-known police officer.

The residents said that the officer always harass and threaten them when they are looking for job opportunities at mines and other companies.

“Some companies are close to us in terms of our ward, but we do not get any job opportunities. There are also the same two police officers who are threatening to arrest us for trespassing while we are exercising our rights. What we want is to engage with mines or company management without being violated,” said the community leader.

Residents also said they will be forced to take the law into their own hands as they feel that their rights are being violated.

They added to say that they always peacefully approach these mines or companies, but they always find this police officer at the sites.

The residents had come to the police station to hand over their CVs to the police officer because he seem to control the mine and the companies.

Vosman Police Station commander Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu met with the marchers and promised that he will look at the points raised and will have to apply his mind and will respond accordingly.

He also told them that some of the issues raised were sensitive and they will need proper investigation

He also raised the issue of the importance of educating each other about laws and the work of police officers and that he will respond later this week.
