Robbers making ‘sports’ out of business robberies
Firearms are a common tool used in these robberies to intimidate and frighten victims into submission.
Business robberies are rearing their ugly head in the city once again.
In two recent incidents, businesses have felt the pinch of these assailants.
In the first case, a business on Arras Street had many items stolen including laptops, cellphones, and money.
According to reports, in the early business hours, it was business as usual when three unknown suspects entered the shop.
One of the assailants had a firearm and demanded cash. Upon telling the robbers that the shop does not keep cash on the premises, she was instructed to lie down on the ground. Luckily no one was harmed in the altercation. The robbers fled in an unknown vehicle.
In the second case, a robber got very brazen when he targeted the Sportscene shop in the Emala Mall.
It was about closing time and the staff was ready to end the day as usual when one unknown man entered the shop wielding a firearm.
One assistant who was busy counting money at one of the tills had been instructed to lie on the ground and be quiet.
One of the shop assistants was instructed to place the till’s money into a plastic bag. The shop assistant complied and was told to lie down on the floor after.
The assailant is unknown as his face has been covered with a balaclava and wearing gloves. The suspect is still at large and unknown.
A spokesperson from Sportscene’s head office has confirmed that a robbery took place and that an investigation is underway.
