Shepards held to a draw by Secunda Stars

The ABC Motsepe League match was played at the Lynnville Stadium.

Playing one of their best games to defend their lead, Shepards had to do whatever it took to protect their one-goal lead, but in the end, Secunda M Stars equalised.

Shepards played Stars at the Lynnville Stadium on Saturday, February 4 and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Shapards had two good scoring chances in the few minutes after the start of the match but both chances went wide.

Stars trying to get into the game and playing their passing game nearly scored with a low shot.

Stars in one of their attempts were awarded a place-kick after one of their players Tshepo Diketso was fouled.

Stars forwards kept Shepard’s backline busy with their constant attacks.

One of Shepard’s players Bongane Dlamini initiated a move going forward, but the attempt went wide.

Shepards had two corner kicks, but they could not find the target.

A Stars forward Themba Khoza had his shot blocked trying to score. A break attack by Shepards nearly resulted in a goal.

Shepard’s Chele Mokoena was yellow-carded for rough play.

Stars had a place-kick and Wandile Madi’s shot went over the crossbar.

Stars Alex Miya nearly scored with a header, but the shot was saved by Shepard’s goalkeeper Solly Ramodiba.

Shepards scored their opening goal when Diketso turn and drive a shot to beat Stars goalkeeper Lucky Mashewula with a low shot.

Stars Emmanuel Zordlewu’s header was saved for a corner kick and their forward Sipho Mafa’s shot went out.

With Shepards leading and controlling the match, the teams break for half-time.

In the second half, the Stars were back with new ideas and played positive soccer, dominating and putting Shepards under pressure.

Shepards had their goalkeeper injured while trying to block a shot and play had to stop.

Stars Brilie Dekamgie made a sole run and miss while in a good position to score.

Shepards caught Stars on a break attack, but the move did not yield positive results.

With Stars dominating play, it did not come as a surprise when they equalised to make it 1-1.

Stars were all over Shepards and missed several scoring chances.

Shepards defended with all they could and both teams shared one point each for their efforts.
