Petition or not, potholes remain in Extension 16

“I understand the frustrations of residents as I travel in ward 33 every day. I see the state of the roads and must drive through all the potholes myself,” Democratic Alliance Ward 33 Councillor Kim Faduk said.

In eMalahleni, potholes are no new realities felt by road users.

However, how long should it persist to become an old reality?

This is the problem experienced by residents of Extension 16 even after a petition was submitted in 2022 for the potholes in De Villiers Street to be repaired.

Frustrations of residents in Extension 16 are enlarging by the day as the potholes that cause it in De Villiers Street.

Democratic Alliance Ward 33 Councillor Kim Faduk explained that a petition for repairs was submitted on June 14, 2022.

Unfortunately, the petition appeared to have gotten lost inside one of the holes that remain unaddressed, with grass growing out of it.

De Villiers Street is still not repaired despite a petition submitted in 2022.

What adds ‘depth’ to the issue is that there are two nurseries in the street where parents must drive.

“I’ve forwarded the petition a few times asking for an update,” Faduk said.

Unfortunately, the ‘un-hole-y’ issue does not stop in De Villiers Street.

Faduk said the potholes in two other streets, Prinsloo and Mostert, have been reported for two years to no avail.

“I understand the frustrations of residents as I travel in ward 33 every day. I see the state of the roads and must drive through all the potholes myself,” Faduk said.

The spokesperson for the municipality, Mr Lebo Mofokeng, was contacted for comment regarding the above issue, but no response was received before print.
