Three suspects hand themselves over to police after kidnapping

The three suspects, aged 27, 31 and 35, handed themselves over at 01:00 on January 20.

Three suspects, who caused a buzz on social media yesterday, handed themselves over at Witbank Police Station at 01:00 this morning.

This followed after the suspects, aged 27, 31 and 35 respectively, were caught on a video forcing a man into a grey Toyota Avanza at a local garage in Mandela Street on January 19.

The victim is a 34-year-old gardener, who claimed to have been working on a pavement outside a house in Reyno Ridge, eMalahleni, when the Toyota Avanza, occupied by the three suspects, stopped next to him.

The suspects allegedly accused him of stealing their plants and proceeded to handcuff and force him into the back of the vehicle.

It is believed that the suspects drove around the city with the victim before making a stop for petrol at a local garage in the Central Business District.

As indicated in the video that circulated on social media yesterday, the victim tried to escape but was forced back into the vehicle at the garage.

The suspects drove with the victim to the N12 highway and dropped him off in a field near Delmas.

The victim made his way to Delmas Police Station, where a case was opened.

The spokesperson of Delmas Police Station, Captain Carla Hartley, said the victim told police that only his gardening tools were taken during the incident.

Hartley also said the case was transferred to Witbank Police Station and that a search for the vehicle was in progress.

The vehicle has been confiscated and was booked in at Witbank Police Station.

The investigation into the case continues.
