‘Jacks’ strike for their Christmas-box this month

Jacks’ seem desperate to give cars away as gifts this year after an alleged hijacking in Octave Street.

The incident occurred on the evening of December 12 in Octave Street, Tasbet Park Extension 2, when six suspects struck for their gift on their wheels.

Allegedly, a man was waiting inside the vehicle with the engine running when his brother went to close the gate.

Six suspects are believed to have approached and pulled him out of the vehicle.

They allegedly instructed him to open his shop nearby; when he refused and started fighting back, they struck him over the head with a firearm.

The suspects are believed to have driven off with his vehicle and are yet to be identified.

The SAPS provides the following safety tips to potential hostages or hijacking victims: In many instances, injuries and deaths result from inconsiderate actions taken by the victims themselves.

They should know what to expect as victims. In this regard, people who are taken hostage or hijacked tend to experience anxiety, shock, disbelief and confusion.

This first reaction usually leads to resistance or retaliation, which could have fatal consequences.

They must prepare to be alone and isolated from their family, friends or loved ones and to lose track of time and place.

They must also know what to expect from the perpetrators.

In this regard, the perpetrators could be tense, anxious and nervous.

They could display a tendency to overreact.

The victims should do everything the perpetrators tell them to do.

They must at all times maintain their pride, dignity and self-respect.

Victims should keep their brains active by playing games in their minds (mind games), daydreaming and reading whatever is offered.

They should not become panic-stricken or hysterical, offer any form of resistance, become abusive and aggressive, or lose their temper.
