Accident on N4 claims life

Three victims are receiving medical treatment.

Five people travelling from Musina to Mozambique were involved in a fatal vehicle accident on the N4.

A burst tyre is believed to have been the cause of the accident.

The driver lost control and the bakkie rolled several times before landing on its side near Louise Street, adjacent to the N4.

One person died on the scene and three others were rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

Witnesses on the scene alleged that people passing by began looting items from the bakkie.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe, has once more urged motorists travelling during this Festive Season to use the road cautiously.

Shongwe was reacting after receiving reports that so far the operations in line with Festive Season Road Safety Plan that is currently underway, were proceeding smoothly.

“We encourage our law enforcers to continue working hard in order to reign in on errant driver behavior and bring to book those who are not obeying the rules,” says Shongwe.

The MEC also appealed to those who will be taking to the road this week to comply with the rules.
