New transformer for KwaGuqa may be installed this Morning

After successfully meeting with communities of eMpumelelweni, Emalahleni Local Municipality was permitted to transport and install the new transformer at the 132kV KwaGuqa Substation. The installation is expected to take place Monday, November 28.

Emalahleni Local Municipality indicated that the municipal team had a successful meeting with the communities of Empumelelweni, to the extent that they permitted the municipality to transport and install the new transformer at the 132kV KwaGuqa Substation.

The municipality said the milestone is appreciated, as it fast-tracks the restoration process

The municipality indicated that it made contact with the rigging and transportation company, who indicated they will be able to assist on Monday, November 28, at 08:00.

The municipality requests liaison with Empumelelweni communities for support on November 28.

The municipality further indicated that the finalization of connection of accessories, installation and connection of transformer low tension cables, testing of breakers, and installation of high tension links on Eskom’s side are currently carried out at the substation.

According to the municipality, the team is checking and assessing the stolen and damaged cables feeding the distribution substation Ring Sub 3.

This is done in preparation to switch on the main transformer at the 132kV Substation.

Note that power supply to the consumer points will be realized only after the damaged cables are restored, and any other broken equipment is replaced or repaired.

Emalahleni Local Municipality Executive Mayor Clr Conny Nkalitshana while addressing residents on Emalahleni FM assured any changes or updates would be communicated directly by her office.

She also mentioned that the technical team is working overtime to bring back the power supply to KwaGuqa, “I would like to applaud the residents for their patience. I understand it has been a difficult time for them as they have been without electricity for so long. In the future I would like to plead with the residents to work together with the municipality to in future avoid the situation we encountered before, where community members took the law into their own hands,” Clr Nkalitshana said.
