Siya is a go-getter radio presenter

He believes that his radio journey was special from the day it started in April 2019.

Siyabonga Assurance Mokoena (21), also known as Siya, is a vibrant local radio personality.

Earlier on in the year, this young man was nominated for best radio personality of the year at the Mpumalanga Men’s Achievement Award in Mbombela.

“It’s with great pleasure that I was announced the winner of Best Radio Personality of the Year,” he said about his achievement.

I’m honestly grateful for the votes that got me provincial recognition. Now we hope and pray for greater and better opportunities,” said Siya.

He believes that his radio journey was special from the day it started in April 2019.

“I’ve been an enthusiast of the medium even before I was granted the opportunity to be on air. From hearing voices on the radio when my grandmother was cooking to being brave enough for an opportunity to be part of the Children’s Radio Foundation as a reporter.”

He went as far as enrolling and being awarded a bursary by the Wits Radio Academy.

“I recently went to Greece for a pop-up radio station at the international Stavros Niarchos Foundation’s Health Conference, all within three years of exposure and experience in the industry. I’d love to believe I’m an unstoppable force that has a bright future in radio and an incredible fan base of listeners. I’m not new to radio, I understand the ‘Theatre of the Mind’ better because I do have technical skills, the know-how to operate the desk and studio equipment, critical innovative thinking and impartiality and great presentation skills and technique, not to mention the amount of hard work I insert daily to make sure I sound better than the previous day on air,” said Siya.

For the past three years on community radio, Emalahleni FM, Siya has polished his skills.

His growth is impeccable, and it’s evident because he started from an hour-long Saturday morning show to a three-hour-long and now a prime-time 12:00 to 15:00 slot on the Essential Lunch.
