Khayalethu Primary School learners bear the fruit of their hard work

It is up to the parent to make sure and teach the children the correct things in life that will help them in the future

Khayalethu Primary School held a prize-giving ceremony to honour all the learners who have done exceptionally well in their studies.

Learners in each stream from Grade R to Grade 7 received prizes for their good effort.

The ceremony was held on Friday, October 28 at Mthimkhulu Home for the Aged in Lynnville

Guest speaker Reverend Mapule Zondo in her address said that the teachers and parents need to work together as a team for better success.

“Teachers play a double role of being a teacher and a parent to the learners and that is not easy. Our teachers are being attacked and that is why we need to support and encourage them. Parents need to be involved in their children’s lives. As a parent be involved and know your child’s dreams, his or her likes and dislikes and challenges. Check the school work and discuss school work and show love and care,” said Reverend Zondo.

Reverend Zondo further says that parents must play a role in making sure that children are not exposed to bad things on television, cell phones or social media.

She added to say it was up to the parent to make sure and teach the children the correct things in life that will help them in the future.

She thanked the teachers for their commitment and dedication to their call. “You are builders and laying the correct foundation, show them love and be a good role model to them and understand them as well.”

To the children, she said they must fear God and show respect to their teachers and parents.

She urged them to play their part by studying hard and always aiming to succeed and be the change they want to see in themselves.

Beauty queen, radio personality and motivator Tinyiko Mathe encouraged the children to concentrate on their studies for a better future.

One of the children, Wandisile Jiyane (7) recited a poem and read from a book to the delight of the parents who attended the event.
