Rugby ‘soldiers’ march on the field for the Warzone 7’s cup

Sixteen club teams came together on Hoërskool Patriot's rugby field on October 1 to compete for the Warzone 7's cup, hosted by Witbank Rugby Club.

Witbank Rugby Club hosted the event over the past weekend.

‘Warzone’ could not be more accurate: grass flew, and dust clouds formed around the

rugby players’ feet as they ran for the ball or went down with a successful tackle.

The action on the ‘battle’ field kicked off the first match on October 1 at 08:00.

Various final matches took place, and all the soldiers gave their best on the field, but only one ‘army’ could take the cup for their club.

The results were as follows:

In the Shield Final, Embalenhle Rugby Club’s first team claimed victory against its second team with a score of 38 to seven.

In the Bowl Final, Witbank Rugby Club’s second team prospered against Alberton Rugby Club with a score of 17 to seven.

In the Plate Final, Witbank Rugby Club’s first team tackled the winning position with a score of 24 to 19 against Bethal Rugby Club.

Finally, the ultimate ‘army’ for the day was Piet Retief Rugby Club, with its victorious 10-point win against the Quins Blue Rugby Club in a final score of 17 to seven.

It was a day for all die-hard rugby fans in eMalahleni.

Supporters happily paid their R10 entrance fee and sat on the pavilion or under gazebos to cheer for their soldiers on the field.

The war ended with a sun-blazing success on a warm day, and the soldiers took their weekend pass home.
