Nkangala Athletic Academy reaching for the stars

Nkangala Athletics runners are accumulating kilometres and medals.

Four Nkangala Athletic Academy athletes managed to finish the Comrades Marathon, with Lerato Chiloane and Boitumelo Seemise making a debut.

Lerato Chiloane 11:11:34; Johannes Masinga 11:26:18; Sizwe Mokoena 11:40:12 and Boitumelo Seemise 11:51:49.

The athletics academy also claimed 11 medals during the Mpumalanga Cross-Country Championships.

This was held at Cambridge Academy on Saturday, August 20.

Thirty-four athletes qualified to represent Mpumalanga in the South African Cross-Country Championships to be held at Bergsig Academy in Rustenburg on September 17.

The following athletes will be representing Mpumalanga: Lerato Kgaile, Sinethemba Mdlalose, Motha Thanduyise, Nkosi Siphesihle, Mabaso Thabang, Sesing Africa, Mlotha Nqobile, Mankge Kgotlelelo, Sesing Katlego, Mogoje Thapelo, Kabini Pretty, Mahlangu Velma, Mabaso Pule, Mdlalose Siyabonga, Ndlovu Neni, Ndlovu Nani, Liwane Anesu, Mathebula Zakhele, Jiyana Banele, Mnisi Sakhile, Sithole Sizwe, Tsotetsi Lucky, Mandonsela Tebogo, Ndlovu Bonginkosi, Mlangeni Beauty, Nkabinde Mandla, Simelane Cindy, Madalane Doctor, Sithole Jetro, Mabaso Thembi, Mabaso Emmanuel, Maphumulo Vukani, Sesing Motlatsi and Mashiloane Mbulawa.

The following athletes qualified for Mpumalanga Schools Cross-Country to be held in Breyten on September 10 after qualifying with four medals in the Nkangala District Regional Cross-Country Championships at WH de Klerk School on August 26: Clemond Komane, Hope Matshiya, Neni Ndlovu, Nani Ndlovu, Siyabonga Mdlalose, Pule Mabaso, Katlego Sesing and Motlatsi Sesing.

Nkangala Athletic Academy had four athletes representing Mpumalanga province in the South African 10km Championships held at Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria on August 13.

Jetro Sithole won a silver medal in the men’s 35+ category and Mandla Nkabinde, Jan Nkabinde and Clemond Komane displayed outstanding performance respectively.

 “It is a great year for NAA in terms of developing talent and influencing a change and positive lifestyle for the young ones and adults. We are producing good athletes for the province without any financial assistance, we now need to raise funds for SA Cross-Country champs; for 34 athletes representing Mpumalanga,” said Emmanuel Mabaso, chairperson of the club.
