Man behind bars after allegedly abducting and raping a teenage girl

A man who was arrested for an alleged rape appeared in court after being arrested by police.

Many residents were left concerned and shocked after a young girl went missing in the community.

It is believed that the 13-year-old girl was abducted and raped, last week after she was reported missing.

This brought attention to the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela.

After searching, officers of the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) managed to track down and arrest a 28-year-old suspect.

It was reported that the suspect was arrested and charged with the alleged abduction and four counts of rape.

The arrest happened on Monday, July 18 and the accused appeared before Witbank Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, July 19.

The case was postponed to Tuesday, August 2, and the accused is remanded in custody.

The investigation of the matter is still ongoing, and Manamela commended the officials that made efforts to arrest the suspect. She came out strong on perpetrators of Gender-Based-Violence.

“A situation whereby women suffer violence under the hands of men who treat and regard women as objects will never be tolerated. The law should deal decisively with such perpetrators without fear or favour,” concluded Manamela.
