Executive Mayor of Emalahleni meet with Uthingo Park committee to find a way forward

For Uthingo Park to function properly viable solutions need to be discussed.

After going back and forth with all the problems at Uthingo Park, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

The executive mayor together with the committee representing the residents has agreed to meet each other for lasting solutions.

A meeting was held on Friday, July 8 at the council chambers, whereby it was agreed that the ball will be set in motion.

The first issue at hand is the taking over of Uthingo Park by the local municipality, and the municipality will have to find a company to administer the place.

Before that, problems and challenges at Uthingo Park will have to be sorted out before anything can happen.

Executive Mayor Cllr Connie Nkalitshana was accompanied by Municipal Manager Mr Sizwe Mayisela, Cllr Vusi Nhlapho, Executive Mayor Manager Mr John Sikhosana and other officials.

The mayor pointed out that is crucial for both parties to find each other to map a way forward.

The representatives agreed that they were mandated by the residents to represent them and that they have called the meeting with the mayor to find solutions.

It was also agreed that the past events should be left in the past.

The committee members were also given a chance to speak out about the challenges they face at Uthingo Park.

“The municipality has taken a decision and is committing to starting with the taking of data of all the people living at Uthingo and lease agreements need to be signed. Once that has been done, the municipality will fix the damages to some houses and then a company can be appointed to administer the area. We need to work together so that the place became safe for you to live in. Switch on will only happen after the data of all the people have been taken, damaged meter boxes replaced and everything is in order,” the mayor said.

The mayor also appeals to the residents to make sure that if officials come to take data and signing of the lease agreement forms, they must ensure their safety. The residents were told that if they encounter any problems, they are welcome to contact the municipality.

She also mentioned that the Uthingo problems have been dragging on for a long time and now is the time to find solutions and move forward.

The residents agreed that they were on the same page as the mayor and that they believe that at least a solution has been found.
