Mpumalanga placed second at the 2022 National Schools Sports Championships

The province houses champions in chess, netball and volleyball.

The Mpumalanga Department of Education and Culture Sport and Recreation congratulate the provincial teams which triumphed in the 2022 National Schools Sports Championships.

The championships were held from July 4 to 6 held in the Western Cape.

The province was represented by talented athletes in chess, netball and volleyball sporting codes.

The teams really put on a good fight, resulting in the volleyball u.17 boys and girls teams clinching the gold medals.

The province also obtained a bronze medal in the volleyball girl’s u.14.

The province obtained position two in the overall performance in the three sporting codes after the Western Cape obtained position one.

The provincial volleyball girl’s team also scooped accolades for the best setter, attacker, libero and defender whereas their male counterparts received the best setter award.

Angel Khoza from Bukhosibetfu Special School was awarded the overall best deaf player of the tournament.

Both MEC Bonakele Majuba and MEC Thandi Shongwe congratulated the team for flying the provincial flag high.

“We congratulate every athlete and team for the good work of representing the province. Indeed, we rise to the occasion as the people of the Place of the Rising Sun. We are proud of our teams’ performances, well-done boys and girls.”
