Klarinet house fire was allegedly started by a stove

Lieutenant General Daphney Manamela urges the community to be much safer during these cold times.

A mother and her four-year-old son and five-year-old daughter were allegedly burnt to death in their home in Extension 3, Klarinet.

It is said that the family might have been using the stove to warm themselves up as it was cold in the early hours of Friday, July 8 and this is allegedly where the fire started.

The shack was engulfed in flames with the family asleep inside.

Witbank police are investigating three counts of inquest following the incident.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Daphney Manamela passed a message of condolences to the family and also urged the public to avoid unsafe methods of getting warm during these extremely cold conditions which are aggravated by load shedding experienced throughout the country.

“The incident is regrettable. Though we understand the situation that we find ourselves in we still cautioned the public to always consider safety first whenever they attempt to warm themselves from the chilling conditions,” the General further urged.
