Sewerage water fills every room at four houses on Luthuli Street, Lynnville

Every room of this house was filled with sewerage water.

Four families in Luthuli Street have to endure and stay in damp houses for four days after sewerage water busted into their houses from another house.

A family member in one of the houses said the problem started on Sunday, June 19 and they reported the matter the following day on Monday, June 20. They claimed that they even phoned the standby line without any success.

“We then went to the municipality offices, and we were told that they were waiting for a van. We went there four times because we thought it was an emergency. Early on Tuesday, we went back again and a van did come by and told us that the problem was major, and they need to send a truck to unblock the pipe. A truck did come by, but they also claim that only the contractor can help in such a situation.”

Blankets and clothes were all wet and all family members could not use their toilets for four days; they had to rely on the neighbors across the streets.

Pensioners live in two of the houses, and in another house a young child was sick with bronchitis.

According to a family member, a contractor was sent on Thursday afternoon and the problem has been fixed after the intervention of Emalahleni FM and Witbank News.
