Sports Against Crime tournament at Masakhane reveals lots of talent

Phola is home to many talents, including soccer and netball stars.

Fighting crime is the biggest priority for Ogies and Phola Police Stations.

This means coming up with innovative ideas to engage with the communities.

The police stations joined and hosted a Sport Against Crime soccer and netball tournament.

The tournament was hosted at Masakhane sports ground on Friday, June 17.

The officers were helped by the Community Policing Forum (CPF) along with Phola Women’s network, Phola Men for Change, Community in Blue, Foundation for Victims of Crime (Fovoc) and Phola Youth Desk.

The tournament had four top soccer and netball teams and the theme of the day was ‘sports against crime’.

The Department of Safety, Security and Liaison donated a soccer kit and a netball kit to both winners of the finals.

Communications officer for Phola SAPS, Sergeant Pertos Ntuli said that the day was a success, and he would like to give recognition to both the Phola SAPS and Ogies SAPS, Constable Bhekuyise Ziqubu, the Phola Women’s Network Chairperson, Captain Khosi Maphanga, Vispol Commander, Captain Jannie Kamfer, Men for Change Chairperson, Warrant Officer Thokozani Masuku, CPF Chairperson, Mr Mlungisi Nkonde, Community in Blue Chairperson, Miss Mary Sibanyoni, Youth Desk Chairperson, Mr Xolani Mashiloane and Miss Tshepiso Ramphamudi from the Foundation for Victims of Crime (Fovoc).
