Baby Olivia passed away

eMalahleni mourns the death of Baby Olivia.

The baby everyone was praying for passed away.

Baby Olivia passed away on June 11.

She was only 11 months old.

According to doctors, she had heavy brain damage and internal bleeding.

On June 9 an urgent request came through to pray for Baby Olivia when doctors found bleeding and swelling on her little brain.

A pipe was put in to drain the blood and make space for the swelling to go down.

The lung dialysis had to be taken off for this procedure.

All went well and she was stable but very critical.

Baby Olivia’s mom, Ms Amy-Leigh Swanepoel said she had the blessing to hold her baby for the first time and 11 weeks and for the last time before they had to say goodbye to the little one who has been fighting since she was admitted to the hospital.

Going back down the calendar Baby Olivia was in the hospital for 10 weeks on June 5 and 10 weeks and six days in the intensive care unit.

Olivia contracted Covid-19 in February and on March 26 she was rushed to a doctor and admitted to Life Cosmos Emergency Unit.

She was later moved to the children’s ward, where she was immediately given oxygen.

X-rays were done, and they showed that she has bronchial pneumonia.

By Sunday evening, the baby girl’s condition worsened, and she also had a seizure.

It was also discovered that her little body was not absorbing the food.

There was a problem with their medical aid and Olivia was transferred to Witbank Hospital until dad Chris sorted the medical aid problem out.

She was then transferred to Fourways Hospital.

Baby Olivia would have celebrated her first birthday on July 7.
