Solomon has the soul for R&B

When you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

The 38-year-old Solomon Zulu was born and bred near Tweefontein Mine, Coalville.

He had a special kind of love for both Soul and R&B music since he was a small boy, and today he is a proud DJ for such genre in music.

“My love for this genre started at home ever since I was a kid; my father used to bounce this music every day. I used to sing along with him, but I never understood what it was saying up until I got older and that’s where I saw the meaning of it and its encouraging words towards life,” said Zulu.

Because his father had the love to say: ‘You will never go wrong with this type of music,’ Solomon now sees what he meant by those words, and that is that ‘this music is life.’

His main aim is to spread the love of his music and already did gigs all around.

“My best gigs were at three places, namely KwaMhlanga Mthunzini Lifestyle, Bel Air in Ackerville Witbank and Brazilian Pub and Grill in Kinross, Secunda,” he added.

With this experience, we all know that a fan base comes along, and so WITBANK NEWS asked Solomon who his biggest supporter/fan is.

“Lindiwe Dhladhla and Nthabiseng Mokhethea are my biggest fans and why I say that, despite the relationship I have with them, they have been there since day one when I told them that one day I will be a DJ. Since after I told them, they pushed me every day, they even organised me a few gigs,” he proudly added.

Although he does not have an album out yet, he is determined to check this one on his bucket list soon.

“I don’t have an album of my own, but I have 15 mixtapes of Soul and R&B on Apple iTunes which I combined by myself,” said the talented DJ.

If it comes to his ultimate song of all Soul and R&B, it would be according to him: “Time and tide… I used to sing this song in my head, not knowing who the artist is or the name of it. When I asked people, they couldn’t understand. When I try to give them the beat of how it goes like, they never understood and maybe saw me as crazy,” he laughed.

It was until one day – during the night that his phone was under his pillow on shuffle mode on iTunes when he dreamt about the song, while unconsciously the song was playing.

“I just randomly woke up and found this song playing. It was literary the happiest day of my life,” he joked around.

If you ask him what his life motto is, he immediately replies with: “When you want something, the entire universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. This is out of a book by Paulo Coelho from the book called, ‘The Alchemist,’ the book that changed my life,” he concluded.
