Sergio Martinel Memorial Shoot was a huge success

Bullets nestled neatly in their targets during this annual competition.

 Willem K Nel won the Sergio Martinel Memorial Shoot that was held recently.

 

Willem won the competition on May 28 with a clear winning score of 453 points out of a possible 600.

 

Second place went to Ed Rossiter with a score of 448 out of 600 and third place went to Thinus van Vreden whose score was 427 out of 600.

The history of this specific competition dates back to 2001.

 

“This gentleman was a former chairman of the club and a very active and competitive handgun shooter during its earliest years, and this competition was established in his memory,” said Marius Blom, the chairman of Witbank Practical Shooting Club.

 

This event requires competitors to shoot six different disciplines. Floating trophies are awarded to the winners of each of these disciplines, with second and third place competitors receiving medals and certificates.

All of the trophies memorialise various persons who have played a prominent part in the history of the club, either as members or as benefactors.

 

In the practical handgun category, Willie du Plessis took first place and was awarded the Johan van Rensburg Handgun Trophy. In second place was Shane Botha and in third Ed.

 

Willem was awarded the Lukas Aggenbach Centrefire Rifle Trophy for winning the practical rifle category. Mike Hickey came second and Willie third.

 

The Stan Orchard Clay Pigeon Trophy went to Thinus for his first place in the shotgun clay category. Willem took second place and Johan Erasmus third place.

 

Marius was awarded the Gerald Soutar .22LR Trophy in the .22 Rifle Silhouette category. Johan came in second and Willem took up third place. 

 

Ed came first in the black powder handgun category, with Shane Botha taking up second and Mike taking up third place.

 

In the black powder rifle, Willem took the honours, with Mike in second and Ed in third place. 

 

The Greg Goosen Black Powder Trophy was awarded to Ed for the best aggregate score in both handgun and rifle.

 

The Witbank Practical Shooting Club was founded more than 40 years ago. 

 

This National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) range is a private club located in Price Street on ground originally owned by Dunn’s Locomotive and Boiler Works.
