Eleven arrested after suspected stolen chrome was found in a storage unit on the R555

Members discovered four of the storage units full of mining chrome.

Police arrested 11 suspects after a mining chrome syndicate was uncovered.

This success comes after Witbank SAPS and Transnet held a search and seizure operation at self storage units on the old Middelburg Road on Thursday, April 28.

“During the initial investigation done on the scene it was discovered that the group arrested was part of a syndicate who are stealing and smuggling chrome from trains between Ferro Metals in eMalahleni and Richards Bay in KwaZulu-Natal,” said Captain Eddie Hall police spokesperson.

Investigations regarding the chrome syndicate are continuing and more arrests are expected.
