Non-profit organisation is ready to make cemeteries condition better.
A story was published about the state of the cemeteries and that all of them have been neglected with overgrown grass and with weeds burying the headstones.
Siyasebenza Community @ work are working hard to set the ball rolling and put their hands on deck and started cleaning at the Old Pretoria Road Cemetery.
The workers under the leadership of Dazo Msimango said they were responding and volunteering their services to put dignity to the loved ones resting at the cemeteries.
“This place is very close to my heart and it need to be kept clean at all times. We have no resources, but we have our hands. My team is volunteering their services for free and we need sponsors. We are working in consultation with the municipality and they have given us the green light. The people resting here contributed a lot to the development of the city and we need to respect them,” said Msimango.
He added to say they need garden tools, paint and anything that can be used to keep the cemetery clean.
He said they are a registered non-profit organisation.
He also stated that they are prepared to keep the place clean as long as they can be supported.
He is also concerned about the safety at the cemetery as people are doing as they please, like stealing from the dead and damaging gravestones.
Anybody interested to donate anything is welcome to do so; their offices are close to the municipality offices.
