Suspects linked to several crimes caught in a shootout

Three suspects linked to various crimes arrested after hijacking.

Members from Vosman Police Station made good when they arrested three gang members after a hijacking.

It seems that these suspects can also be linked to various other crimes.

The suspects, aged between 23 and 45 were arrested on Thursday, April 21 in Verena.

A fourth suspect was fatally shot during a shootout with the police.

Three firearms and the hijacked vehicle were also recovered by members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT).

It is alleged that the gang hijacked the car in Vosman from a man, his wife and child. The suspects apparently drove off with the woman and her child, who have been dropped off a few kilometers away from the crime scene, while the man was kept in the boot of the car.

A search in pursuit of the suspects began. TRT worked hand-in-hand with a vehicle tracking company to find the car.

A lead was obtained that the suspects were also driving an Opel Corsa and were driving on the R544 near Verena.

A shootout between the suspects and the members of the TRT started where one suspect was fatally shot.

Two other suspects were also shot but were taken to hospital under police guard.

A fourth suspect allegedly came out without any visible injuries.

Three suspects, including the two injured ones, were then arrested.

The Opel Corsa was confiscated and the hijacked Volkswagen was recovered.

The three firearms found were said to be unlicensed and had ammunition.

The suspects are linked to other crimes including a hijacking in Siyabuswa that happened earlier this month and an attack on police officials from Witbank police which happened in February last year.

Another crime linked to the suspects was an attack on SAPS officials in Kwamhlanga.

More charges may be added including the hijacking incident at Vosman, as the investigation continues.

The three suspects are expected to appear before court soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela is delighted with the arrests.
