Singo Consulting honours Wetland’s Day and National Water Week

The initiative was in honour of Wetland’s Day and National Water Week 2022

South Africa is a signatory of The Ramsar Convention, which aims to foster wetland and biodiversity conservation. On March 25 Singo Consulting created awareness around the importance of the wetland and water conservation so that the sustainability of future generations will be ensured. The community and other stakeholders were encouraged to participate in ensuring that this natural resource in their neighbourhood (Tasbet Park) is cleared of any debris.

“Our people need to be made aware that these natural areas are important to their well-being and it is our responsibility to keep them functioning. This can all be done through initiatives like these. Before the commencement of this awareness, we consulted with the community members near the area of interest,” said Siyabonga Mashigo from Singo Consulting.

The stakeholders that vested interest in the initiative as it aligned with theirs were the Emalahleni Local Municipality, the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA – Klipfontein).

“These stakeholders’ participations made this initiative a big success. The Emalahleni Local Municipality supported our event with a tractor, three grass cutters and an operator, 30 Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) gloves and plastic bags. The DARDLEA provided another 10 EPWP workers,” Mashigo added.

Singo Consulting Management provided food for the personnel and went the extra mile by volunteering to help. This initiative was in honour of Wetland’s Day and National Water Week 2022 as Singo Consulting aimed at educating the public about their responsibility in water conservation initiatives, raising awareness around the need to protect and conserve the country’s water resources.

“A wetland clean up provided us the opportunity to share information on the many benefits received from wetlands and how they are an invaluable asset to water quality, especially near urban areas,” Mashigo concluded.
